About the founder

Gautam Katoch has spent his career working across investment, geopolitics and macroeconomics, and founded Sansar Insights in 2018.

He began his career in consulting before moving into venture capital, and has since worked closely with a leading UK single family office. His work initially focused on direct investment and deal-making before shifting towards the strategic issues that sit upstream of individual investment decisions.

Sansar Insights has since grown into an independent practice working with a select group of family offices, helping them understand how geopolitics, economic policy and structural change in the global economy shape the environment in which capital is deployed.

Gautam approaches geopolitics as an investor: what matters for capital, what doesn't, and when political change becomes material to an investment decision. His work is informed by direct dialogue with policymakers, economists and business leaders.

Our Services

GEOECONOMIC INsights: Understand what is changing

The political shifts that reshape markets rarely arrive without warning. More often, they arrive without the right framework for understanding their consequences.

We provide a structured, investment-focused view of the geopolitical forces driving long-term economic change; from great-power competition and industrial policy to technology, defence, sanctions, trade and economic security.

The focus is not on predicting the next headline. It is on identifying the structural trends, policy inflection points and strategic rivalries that will shape investment conditions over the coming decade.

INVESTOR STRATEGY: Understand what it means for your capital

Geopolitical analysis is only valuable to an investor if it can be translated into investment consequences.

We work through what changes in the political and economic environment mean for specific portfolios, sectors, geographies and investment theses.

Where is capital exposed to political risk that has not been adequately priced? Where is policy creating structural opportunity? Which assumptions within an investment thesis become vulnerable if the geopolitical environment changes?

The result is independent perspective designed to sharpen investment judgement and inform long-term allocation decisions.

STRATEGIC DIALOGUE: Build geoeconomic judgement into the investment process

Geopolitics does not move in quarterly cycles. Neither should an investor's understanding of it.

A small number of clients work with Sansar Insights on a retained basis, embedding independent geoeconomic perspective into their investment process.

This is not another research subscription or periodic briefing. It is a standing capability: someone to challenge assumptions, interpret developments and work through what changing political and economic conditions mean for capital as they evolve.

How We Help

Understand. Interpret. Apply.

Our work is designed to connect geopolitical change to investment decisions.

Understand: Identify the political, economic and strategic forces that could materially change the investment environment.

Interpret: Assess how those forces are likely to transmit through policy, economies, sectors and markets- separating structural change from political noise.

Apply: Work through what those changes mean for portfolios, investment theses and long-term capital allocation.

Our clients are looking for:

  • A clearer view of how geopolitical change affects their investments

  • Early identification of political and policy shifts that could change an investment thesis

  • A way to separate geopolitical noise from developments that genuinely matter

  • Independent challenge to the assumptions behind their investment decisions

  • A better understanding of how political decisions affect economies, sectors and markets

  • Long-term perspective on risks and opportunities that markets may not yet fully reflect
